DAY 27
God's Truth
Psalm 51:6
Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place.
Attitude Adjustment
Truth. Where do you get it from? How do you act on it? Is it even valuable to you? According to the Word, we desire it in our inner parts. Where are those inner parts? Is it in our hearts, our minds, our souls?
According to Anne Ortlund, in Disciplines of the Heart, the truth needs to reside in the living between the ears. She explains that what we think about ourselves gives way to how we live. Jennifer Rothschild, in Self Talk, Soul Talk, considers that very same fact, as she explains that what we say to ourselves is what we believe about ourselves. Both ladies declare the same solution, which is that Scripture must be the foundation of our thought lives and the vocabulary of our hearts, souls, and minds.
Most of us, when we realize our mistakes or unlovely acts, berate ourself with untruths..."You're so stupid! How could you be such a klutz...with your mouth? You should know better!" Instead, we need to take hold of what Scripture has to say in those circumstances,
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus..." Romans 8:1
"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."
Proverbs 11:2
"Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you."
Acts 13:38
Proverbs 11:2
"Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you."
Acts 13:38
The truth we desire in our inner most parts is readily available to us for the taking. The Lord is eager and ready to give us the wisdom we need, through the counselor, who is the Holy Spirit. We need to take the first step each time, by being careful of what we think and say to ourselves, and evaluating it for truth. It is a habit we must build into our lives, asking ourselves regularly, "Is this what God would say to me in this moment? Is this thought true according to Scripture?"
If we want to be women that share the Good News and God's extravagant grace with others, especially with our families, than we need to be believers of the truth found in the Word, having it dwell in our inner most parts. For today's Attitude Adjustment, begin noticing how you talk to yourself. As you do, ask God to show you and remind you of Scriptures that would speak truth to your inner most parts.
Heavenly Father, we humbly come to you truly desiring truth in the inner most parts. Lord Jesus, make us aware of our thought lives in such a way that we can delete the lies from Satan through the power of your truth! In Jesus' Name, Amen.
