5:16 Club -- Day 14, Feeling Like a New Normal

Does it really take 30 days to form a habit? If so, I better not get too confident in saying that rising early is officially a habit of mine, since I still have 16 more days to go. It is getting remarkably easier to get out of bed at 5 whatever in the morning, and I don't have that icky feeling that described my state of existence no so long ago.

The big test will be in how I feel toward the beginning of next week. I keep wondering if sleeping all day this past Monday somehow revved me up. One day of sleep per every six days of rising just isn't practical for any of us, however!

The real blessing of rising early is the way God uses it to push out the anxiety that often robs my joy. Sitting with Him in the Word is incredibly rich and is a steadying agent in my busy world. I don't know about you, but shutting down my mind from the myriad of thoughts is no easy feet. When I open Scriptures, God's thoughts overtake mine and tend to stay with me throughout the day. The lessons are like fresh water drawn from the well-spring of life. I feel like a full cup is always perched on the corner of the counter to grab a sip from on the way to the next task. In the stiller moments, I can think back to the spiritual food God provided at the first part of the day, and chew it over for further understanding. Some days it is a simple, "...cast all your anxiety on Him..." and other days it may be much more in-depth, like yesterday's post or this morning's profound look at Psalm 107. That's one I'll have to revisit in the next few days, and hopefully be able to share with you, but for now I need to run in order spend time with the girls before they head to school, leaving you with this challenge: Open your Bible and get a dose of the satisfying Living Bread; let the God of the heavens speak to your heart and fill your thirsty soul with Living Water.

Psalm 107:21
Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for men.

Because of Him,
