I continued my reading of Psalm 119 this morning, and still have the last portion to finish tomorrow. Again, the power of the Word, which I wrote about yesterday, screamed forth from the pages. The mention of the Word and its synonyms was so repetitive that I began circling each reference with hopes of finding a pattern revealing something further. What I noticed is that almost every verse mentions either word, decree, statue, law, promises, precepts, or commands.
Psalm 119 is the longest of all the Psalms and is written as a alphabetical acrostic, meaning that each stanza starts with successive letter in the Hebrew alphabet (within each stanza, each line also begins with that letter). I am sure that the use of this type of poetry partnered the focus on the Word is of great significance. Our Heavenly Father -- our Teacher -- is driving home a point that we would greatly benefit by heeding. The Word Matters. It is to be the source of our hope, trust, confidence, conviction. It is what turns our hearts to Him and transforms our minds. It is the boundary line and course determining factor in all areas of our lives. It should be our delight and more precious to us than a thousand pieces of silver and gold.
Why don't you take some time today to read Psalm 119 and see for yourself how the Lord describes His Word. Go deeper. It matters, and will bring delight to your soul.
Because of Him,
