Pursing Wellness: Spiritual Life for Spiritual Food

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I'm so glad you're here today! I can be certain, based on my experience alone, that you will be blessed by this study and accountability group, as we seek the Lord for His way and allow His truth to inspire us to pursue wellness.

Let's get going!
Pick your track and follow along...

Track 1 - Starting Now
This track is for those starting June 12th

I'm so glad you made the commitment to be here today. What you need to do now is head over to this link and begin with the Week 1 post, which will launch you into week one of the study. Don't forget to leave a comment below with your link or email address, so that we can send you a note of encouragement.*

Track 2 - Continuing Now
This track is for those continuing beginning June 12th.

Welcome back! It is good to be studying again with you. I don't know about you, but I found I need to invest even more fully in pursuing wellness. I'd love to say I managed to stay fit and keep the pounds off during our time apart, but that is just not the truth. Instead, I fell back into my old habits of emotional eating and avoiding anything that felt like work when it came to exercise. Oye! Humbling. I have so much to learn.

I also realized (Holy Spirit Conviction!!!) that I have a major issue with pride, and that I base my pursuit of wellness relative to those around me. For example, if Mary Jane is thin and fit, then I feel fat and shlumpy (my own made up word!), thereby I am motivated to eat well and exercise. If Bobby Jo is overweight and inhaling a bag of chips, then I think I'm miss svelte and can afford to indulge, too. I am embarrassed to even admit this is my mental state, but I do so knowing that I am not alone and that by confessing this to you, you can pray for me and hold me accountable.

Well, now that I've spilled my beans, what about yours. What was your time away like? Did you continue to pursue wellness?

I'm all for our check in time, so let's get going! I'll put my answers in a comment below. It is better if I see myself as a participant and not just your fearless leader.

Check In!

Let's try this again...my checking in:

1. Success: began couch to 5k running program AND passed on yo-yos for dessert on Tuesday, and only had 1 slice not 2 of pizza
Failure: indulged in sweets yesterday as a source of comfort instead of finding comfort in my Savior

2. Goal: continue couch to 5k on Sat, Mon, Wed

3. Seeing bios, psuche, and zoe, completely intertwined -- all needing focus for wellness success; recognizing that I am weakest in the physical area, and there is always potential for growth spiritually, and always wounds to be healed emotionally.

4. Zippo weight loss!

5. Please pray for me to focus on the wellness portion, not weight lost portion and to not let pride nor laziness rule my eating and exercise decisions.

THANKS!

My week 1 post is already up...didn't realize that that was week 1 -- just thought it was part of the intro (which I now see, is still kind of true). LOL.

Anyway... I'm just starting today, so I'm excited to get going! My goals for the week are listed in the post. ;)

Alright - here's my contribution......
First of all - I had my wires cross about when I should be officially starting and have only this morning picked up the book to "begin" - I just bought it yesterday.
1. Success - I got the book and made it known that I am going to do this - I am now accountable ;-) I have posted and told people there is no backing out now ;-)
2. For the week ahead I would like to have meal plans ready and follow them - I know if I can do this my successes will be greater. As for a spiritual goal - to spend uninteruppted time alone with God each morning (that can be hard at my house).
3. Nothing here to share .....yet
4. Although I am just beginning - I did have an encouraging number on the scale this morning - I was down 1.5 lbs from the last time I weighed which I think was within the last week....
5. In prayer I would ask that I begin to see myself through His loving eyes more and my critical eyes less.

Under the Shelter of His Wings,
Leisha

I thought I typed this up and submitted this awhile back, but apparently I didn’t. Luckily I saved it in a Word document file, so I could just copy and paste! I’m sorry I’m so apparently behind in getting my posts actually up online. :(

1. Share one wellness success and failure from the week.
Success: I was faithful to working out 5 days this week.
Failure: I didn’t exactly make the best food choices… which is funny considering this week was about spiritual food.

2. Share one wellness goal for the upcoming week.
I want to return to making healthier choices regarding my food.

3. Share one significant point learned from completing the Begin With Christ homework.
This week reminded me of the importance of having all three types of life in balance with one another. If one area is out of balance with the others, then I am not living life as abundantly as I have been called to do so. If I’m being honest, I’d say that I most often find my mental/emotional life imbalanced. I am just a very emotional creature… and I think that’s the easiest place for the enemy to attack me. Sometimes I think I feel things too deeply. I really don’t like that about myself. I can also be very selfish about the things I perceive to want for myself emotionally, which sometimes might directly go against God’s desires for me… and yet, it’s hard to let go of those desires. Of course, that leads me to wonder how healthy my spiritual life can be if I find my mental/emotional life so easily imbalanced?

4. Share your weight loss, if you so choose.
Despite poor food choices, I lost 2 pounds this week for a total of 21 pounds since January

5. Share one way others can specifically pray for you in your pursuit of wellness.
I initially asked for prayer this week specifically regarding food choices. Although, since I am posting this now much after the fact, I think that makes it a moot point. :(
