Pursuing Wellness: Week 9, Filled with the Spirit

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Welcome back! I hope you are finding this adventure in Pursuing Wellness a rewarding, albeit difficult at times, journey! As a quick reminder, anyone can participate in Pursuing Wellness, beginning at any time, using the First Place 4 Health's, Begin With Christ book as a study guide or simply dropping by to answer the accountability questions each week. Essentially, you have three options:
  1. If you are starting today, go to this post - Introduction.
  2. If you started on June 12th, continue with the next week listed on the sidebar, according to how many weeks you have already completed. Work your way through and leave a comment / link at that particular post.
  3. If you are picking up from the original start date, then you will be moving along with me and should be up to Week 9 in the book, and our questions are contained below in this post.
So Let's get going with our checking in:

This week's work was definitely a challenge for me, simply because I was sick with a flu-like bug for almost the whole week. Exercise and healthy eating was swallowed up by sleep and days of dry toast. As such, my answers to my questions will be somewhat vague, as my ability to process the information was a little blurred. Nonetheless, I want to press on, for your sake and mine.
Answer these questions in a comment below or in a post at your blog. (I will do the same, so that I am an active participant!) Be sure to leave a link!
  1. Share one wellness success and failure from the week.

  2. Share one wellness goal for the upcoming week.

  3. Share one significant point learned from completing the Begin With Christ homework. (click here to order the book from Amazon ) If you'd like, you can share your thoughts based on these points raised:

    • What did you learn about where the Spirit takes up residence?
    • Did that fact change how you feel about caring for your body?
    • What does the Spirit do for us?
    • Would you be willing to share the sins of excess in your life?
    • What song of worship fills your mouth with praise fitting for today?

  4. Share your weight loss, if you so choose.

  5. Share one way others can specifically pray for you in your pursuit of wellness.
Don't forget to leave a comment below with your link or email address, so that we can send you a note of encouragement.*
Remember, this is simply an effort of sisters-in-Christ encouraging one another to be physically and spiritually healthy for the glory of God. I am grateful for your partnership and look forward to sharing the journey ahead!

Only because of Him,

Time for my contribution...

1.wellness success -- got the homework done even while I was sick; failure -- I take a pass on this since I was sick!

2. wellness goal -- to get back on the exercise and healthy eating horse, specifically do couch to 5K Sat, Mon, Wed, Fri and walk the other days and skip the sweets.

3. Homework points:

* What did you learn about where the Spirit takes up residence? The reality that it the Spirit is in me hit me anew this week.

* Did that fact change how you feel about caring for your body? With the thought of God inside of me, I felt a wave of guilt for how I care for myself. I hope that sticks, so that I'll be motivated to eat better and exercise more consistently.

* What does the Spirit do for us? Intercedes!

* Would you be willing to share the sins of excess in you life? Yes. I can be a glutton, especially with carbs. And indulgent to satisfy emotional desires.

* What song of worship fills your mouth with praise fitting for today? My Heart is Filled with Thankfulness!

4. weight loss -- I don't know. I'll check next week.

5. prayer request -- to get back on the horse.

I'm late, but I'm here! (I've had to work all weekend...) My check in is posted here. A semi-successful week! And, I've found some substitute lessons, since I don't have the "Begin With Christ" book! :D

1. Share one wellness success and failure from the week.
Success: I ate healthily the second portion of the week.
Failure: I was on a road trip, so I didn’t eat healthily the beginning of the week. I was with family, who purchased things like pizza and Joe’s Crab Shack for dinner. How does one resist? I also did not work out at all.

2. Share one wellness goal for the upcoming week.
Again, I’d like to get the whole eating healthy AND working out thing going together at the same time again. ;)

3. Share one significant point learned from completing the Begin With Christ homework.
I am not quite sure why, but I got really irritated this week at the thought that my body does not belong to me and that I am owned by God. I’m not quite sure why this irritated me, since this is something I have known and believed for quite some time. ??? I suppose that’s the selfish nature in me crying out What do you mean I’m not in control of everything? You’re not the boss of me! As if having the infinite, all-knowing, completely loving Lord of all creation in charge of my body and life would turn out poorly… And yet, I’m not feeling it this week if I’m being completely honest. I’m feeling kind of mad about it actually. I know this isn’t a good thing, but my heart’s not repentant about it yet. What does that mean when I know the Spirit is trying to intercede, but I stubbornly rebel and don’t listen? Maybe because I have been around so many non-believers? Maybe it’s spiritually affecting me?

As for my sin of excess. As a single, nearly 29 year old woman I’d have to say entertaining sexual thoughts is probably my sin of excess more than anything else. Which isn’t exactly related to my physical health and wellness, but it most certainly is related to my mental and emotional health and wellness. I think it was worse this week being around some of my cousins who are OPENLY promiscuous. I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t entertain jealous thoughts about how easily they give in to sexual desires and secretly wish I could, too. I mean, it sure would feel good in the moment. But I know that’s not what God intends for me. And yet, I’ve had a harder time than usual being joyful about that this week. I know that probably sounds so silly, but I’m just being honest! I mean, I could care less about other worldly things like getting drunk or high… but to have a man hold me and desire me? I want that. I seriously wish God would just remove my sexual drive until my wedding night. That would certainly be a lot easier.

4. Share your weight loss, if you so choose.
Nada. But I didn’t gain, which I definitely thought I might. So still holding at 22 pounds of weight loss since January.

5. Share one way others can specifically pray for you in your pursuit of wellness.
Although it’s after the fact, you can pray for me that I get out of this spiritual funk I find myself in.
